Abstract

1. A process for recovering the uranium present in phosphate compounds by means of an organic phase containing a dialkyl-pyrophosphoric acid, characterized in that said organic phase also contains at least one mol of a solubilising agent for uranium ammonium dialkyl-pyrophosphate per mol of dialkyl-pyrophosphoric acid, and in that the process comprises the following steps, carried out at a temperature not exceeding 50 degrees C : a) bubbling anhydrous ammonia gas into the organic phase already charged with uranium, to precipitate the ammonium salt of the excess dialkyl-pyrophosphoric acid ; and, b) effecting a liquid-solid separation to separate from the organic phase the ammonium salt of the dialkyl-pyrophosphoric acid precipitated in the course of the previous step a), said solubilising agent for the uranium ammonium dialkyl-pyrophosphate being a liposoluble compound which possesses electron pairs capable of forming hydrogen bonds with the pyrophosphoric acid diesters.
