Abstract

A tool bit for cutting and/or bevelling pipe ends combines a deep blade for severing the wall of a pipe with an angled blade fro cutting a bevel on the edge of the end of the pipe. A smooth face which can slide over the pipe surface is adjusted to control the size of the chamfer. Typically the bevel angle (alpha) is 15 degrees. The rake angle (beta) for the cutting blade is 10-15 degrees (negative), with a similar relief angle at the base of the blade. The blade may be a fixed blade or a replaceable tip held by a screw mounting at an adjustable angle. Esp. suitable for plumbing applications, e.g. for cutting PVC or polyethylene pipes for water, waste or soil pipe use.
