Abstract

In the mfr. of cement clinker, or the roasting of alumina, limestone, magnesite, dolomite, etc., the roasting furnace is followed by a cooler, in which air is employed to cool the prods. and thus becomes hot. This hot air is used, before being recycled to the plant or released to the atmos. for the direct counter-current preheating of the fuel used in the roasting plant without employing any intermediate fluid. Pref. that part of the hot air leaving the cooler is fed through a filter another up a dust contg. a heat exchanger for the laminar flow of the fuel being preheated. The exchanger contains a row of finned tubes through which the fuel, esp. heavy oil, is pumped. The invention uses the hot air, e.g. to preheat 11 t/h of oil at 60 bars from 76 degrees C to 125 degrees C via. 70,000 m3/h air at 170 degrees C.
