Abstract

The application is typically to insulators, operating rods, and similar components in electrical appts. To make the joint between the glass fibre rod (1) and the metallic fitting (2) the latter is bored out to a diameter slightly larger than the outside diameter of the rod. The resulting free space is filled with a porous material (3), for example a metallic powder. The joint between metal and glass rod is made by impulse deformation of the metal fitting. For example, the fitting (2) can be surrounded by a layer of explosive to provide the necessary power.
