Abstract

The thickness of wound film (e.g. micro-film) on the spool(4) is tracked by a sprung pivoting arm(7) acting via rollers(9, 10) on the film surface. An articulated gantry (8) of two or four rollers of different diameters, each appropriate to a different film thickness, is positioned on the end of the arm. A micro-switch(21) is tripped by a spar(19) when a position, corresponding to a certain film thickness, is reached, so electrically activating a visible or audible indication of film length remaining. Spool, roller and pivot(6) axes are coplanar in each of the variations of the mechanism.
