Abstract

The invention relates to a compound which is suitable as an intermediate in the preparation of pyrethroid insecticides and which has the formula The compound is preferably present in the same stereochemical form as the cyclopropane ring of (+)-3-carene. The new intermediate can be prepared by a process comprising the hydrolysis, under alkaline conditions, of 1-(2,2-dimethoxyethyl)-3,3-dimethylcyclopropyl methyl acetate, the latter compound preferably being derived from (+)-3-carene.
