Abstract

An alternative to the conventional design of ball pens is to make the body from a flat rectangular piece of plastic (11) with a narrow groove (16) near one edge. The width of this groove at the surface is slightly less than the width at the base so that the ink cartridge (17) is retained after being pressed into the groove. This method of manufacture is much cheaper than making the conventional barrel of a ball pen. In addition the body (11) may be made in the form of a paper knife, or a visiting card or carry advertisements.
