Abstract

The installation process applies to ventilation or hot air heater ducts for an automobile, utilising an axially expanding sleeve connector (5) to accommodate dimensional variations between a fixed spigot (2) and a fixed aperture (3) in a plane panel (7). The spigot may be set in dash board (1) and the aperture may comprise an outlet from a set back fan housing (4), the process being initiated by force fitting one end of the sleeve onto the spigot. The sleeve is then compressed axially and the assembly mounted in the dashboard, finally being allowed to expand until the free end makes a sealed contact on the plane surface around the outlet. Contact areas may be increased by providing an external radial sleeve flange (6), and the sleeve may have an axially undulating accordion type wall construction increasing in dia. towards the free end.
