Abstract

An internal combustion engine which uses butane as a fuel is able to start at temperatures below 0 deg.C by auxiliary heating elements which assist in fuel vaporisation. When the engine is running hot, fuel flows from the tank through a pump and to the carburettor. When starting from cold, temperature sensitive switches allow fuel to flow through pipe, past a heating element. As the engine warms up, thje vaporiser is heated by the engine cooling water. When there is sufficient heat from the cooling water, the heating element is switched off.
