Abstract

The hydrostatic system transmits drive to independent road wheels. A hydrostatic coupler (10) transmits drive to the rear road wheels (2) of the tractor, connecting the engine shaft (9) to a shaft (11). A primary hydraulic circuit (17) connects coupler inlet (15) and outlet (16) ports, including a restrictor (18) by which the drive ratio may be controlled. Branch lines (19, 20) each side of the restrictor lead to the inlet (21) and outlet (22) ports of an hydraulic motor (13) which drives the rear road wheels (5) of the trailer. The coupler (10) is mounted on the engine, the only mechanical connection with the tractor chassis being the hydraulic feed lines.
