Abstract

The transportation system uses two parallel 'L' section rails to form a track for vehicles with rubber tyred wheels, 'Y' shaped track intersections being controlled by vertically retractable counter rails. Road wheels on horizontal axles run on horizontal rail flanges, being straddled by guide wheels on vertical axles. The guide wheels engage the vertical rail flange, and each road wheel is set outside an integral disc flange which is brought into use at junctions. The route taken at a junction is dictated by the relevant external rail flange acting in association with an adjacent counter rail, the latter forming a groove which is engaged by a disc flange.
