Abstract

This equipment displays information transmitted during the blanking interval of a TV signal e.g. in teletext transmissions. The normal methos is to use a modified TV receiver. A considerable reduction in size is obtained by using, in place of the cathode ray tube, light emitting diode, liquid crystal, or electrochromic displays for the alphanumeric characters. This temporary display can be supplemented by, or replaced by, a permanent record from e.g. a thermal printer using heat-sensitive paper. The equipment is typically the size of a wallet and may be used in conjunction with a pocket calculator.
