Abstract

The central clamp comprises clamping jaws equally distributed in a body, the jaws moving in radial guides to and from the body central axis for delivery of the workpiece in the clamping centre and its retention there. Adjacent chucks are interconnected by a gear arrangement at least three groups of them forming symmetrically arranged pairs. For all jaw pairs a common drive is provided for their synchronous movement. Each gear train contains a part connected to the common drive, which is movable in the angle bisectors between the guide of the jaw pairs, and carries a freely rotatable component. This component causes each jaw pair to move into contact with the workpiece, and the second jaw of each pair to connect to it.
