Abstract

A filter for removing solids particles from gases has a number of filter sleeves into which the gas flows from an inlet chamber, depositing the particles on the interior of the sleeves. A cleaning pipe, pref. connected to a source of suction, moves cyclically around in the inlet chamber, but sealed from it, connecting with the inlets to the sleeves, or groups of sleeves, in turn. The particles are expelled from the interior of the sleeves through the cleaning pipe, the emptying of the sleeves pref. being assisted by vibration where the sleeves are suspended at their upper ends. The cleaning pipe is pref. moved by a pneumatic or hydraulic cylinder, or a stepping motor, within an outlet chamber of the filter, or outside the filter, at the lower part of the pipe. The filter is usable for removing dust from air, e.g. in underground mines, or in the timber, cement, or foundry industries, or for sepg. powdered prods. from transporting air or other gas in the chemical, food, or agricultural industries. The number of filtering sleeves can be reduced in comparison with conventional devices, making the appts. smaller for the same capacity, and part of the energy in the gas to be filtered can be used to aid cleaning of the sleeves. Filtration and cleaning can be performed continuously.
