Abstract

In a chemical clothes cleaning machine, the speed of drum rotation between the washing and spin drying cycles is controlled so that the centrifugal acceleration at the circumference of the drum lies at 0.8-1.3C. The speed is slowly increased over a period of 10-60 secs. and then rapidly brought up to spin drying speeds. The pref. time span is 30 secs. for the intermediate phase, and the rotary speed increase is linear. The fluid is removed from the drum while the rotary speed is increased. The system ensures that the clothing being processed is distributed evenly round the inner surface of the drum so that there is no imbalance on spin drying.
