Abstract

The device is for the redn. of an oedema swelling and involves applying a predetermined pressure to the afflicted arm or leg. It comprises a trapezoidal, thin flexible panel which supports a series of inflatable, rubber sleeves. Each sleeve has a tube connecting it to a source of gas. The panel is wrapped round the lim and fastened with a hooked pile fastener. The sleeves are then selectively inflated to a pressure of 250-600 milibars. They form co-axial toroids and apply pressure to the oedema to encourage the reabsorption of lymphatic fluid.
