Abstract

The sphygmomanometer is used medically to count arterial impulses in the blood system. It comprises a wide flexible band which is wound round the arm, a bulb applying pressure and decompression into an expandable pocket. The portion of the band which initially fits around the arm is precurved to hold itself in place whilst the free end is wrapped round and secured by means of self adhesive strips. The precurving is obtained by inserting curved rigid strips into the edges of the pocket.
