Abstract
Surface faults in a product are sensed by a detector which is servo controlled to be suspended at a particular distance above the surface. Correction of detector position is rapid and precise. A jib (1) is mounted on the housing (2) and supports a detector block (18) above the product (4) which is supported on rollers (3). The detector comprises upstream (19) and downstream (20) sensor cells which are connected to a servo control circuit assembly (21) which maintains detector at given distance from the product surface. These circuits drive a hydraulic jack (10) which moves the detector assembly vertically on a guide shaft (8).
