Abstract

The electrically controlled gauge for measuring liquid such as fuel in a motor vehicle is damped to provide a steady indication. This is provided by a cylinder damper acting on the float system. An enclosure (1) contains a resistance winding on a flat plate. The turns are successively short circuited by a slider (2) attached to a lever arm (5) connected to the flot (4). A piston (14) in a damper cylinder (10) is attached via a shaft (13) to the float lever arm. The cylinder is mounted to allow movement to follow rotation of the float.
