Abstract

A two-speed gear box has an input shaft (10) with a pinion (11) which drives an intermediate shaft (4) and an output shaft (1) through pinions (25, 2). The intermediate shaft drives a second output shaft (6) through a worm gear. When the torque on the second output shaft exceeds a given value, it exerts an axial force on the wormwheel which overcomes the force of the spring (9) and allows the intermediate shaft to move axially. This movement disengages the pinions (2, 25) and engages the pinions (8, 3) so that the speed ratio between the input shaft and the first output shaft is changed.
