Abstract
A shaft (1) has two perpendicular radial guides (3, 4) each extending on both sides of the shaft. Two masses (5, 6, 7, 8) can slide on each guide. The masses on each guide are attached to each other by fixed rods (9, 10, 11, 12) so that they are at a constant distance apart and move synchronously. Each mass carries a wheel (13, 14, 15, 16) which runs on the inside of a profiled ramp. At any time the outer mass of a pair produces a couple greater than that needed to raise the inner mass. This leaves an excess turning moment available to drive the shaft.
