Abstract
The up and over door (7) for garages or similar, is driven by an electric reduction motor with a chain transmission, and is guided by rollers (8) travelling in tracks on both sides. Each track has a vertical run (10) connected by a transition curve to an horizontal overhead run (11). The arrangement provides for silent door movements by minimising kinetic energy, the intersection of the transition and the vertical run being angled with the curve tangent at 30 deg. to the horizontal. The least radius of the transition occurs at the intersection with the vertical, being in the region of 800mm for 2.5m doors. Greater radii are used for larger doors, and door movement is entirely controlled by the motor and chain. The door may be tilted from the vertical solely by the rollers traversing the transition and horizontal track runs.
