Abstract

The gas filled high voltage circuit breaker has arc extinction windings. The breaker enclosure is housed within a rectangular metal shell, the principle electrodes (5, 23) being positioned centrally and interconnected by the axially moving conducting tube (14). One principle electrode and two split annular secondary electrodes (9, 9') are held within an inner annular enclosure (15) secured to the outer screen top surface. Suppression windings (8, 8') are set coaxially about the central cylinder in separate compartments within the inner enclosure and are interconnected by a shunt resistor (16). The secondary contacts ride over shaped non-magnetic electrodes (12, 12') set on the annulus inner wall (45).
