Abstract

The motor vehicle and trailer have their electrical systems (10, 12) coupled together by connector devices (14, 20). The motor vehicle also has a detector (33) for actuating an alarm (48, 50) on sensing an open circuit between two (16, 18) of the terminals of the connector. The corresp. terminals (22, 24) on the trailer are either permanently shorted, so that the alarm is used solely to indicate an electrical fault, or interconnected by a manually operated normally closed switch (52), so that a person on the trailer can also use the alrm to signal to the driver.
