Abstract

A motor vehicle 10 and trailer 12 have their electrical systems coupled together by connector devices 14, 20, the motor vehicle also having a detector 33 for actuating an alarm 48, 50 on sensing an open circuit between two (16, 18) of the terminals of the connector device 14. The corresponding terminals 22, 24 on the trailer are either permanently shorted, so that the alarm is used solely to indicate an electrical fault, or interconnected by a manually-operated normally- closed switch 52, so that a person on the trailer can also use the alarm to signal to the driver. <IMAGE>
