Abstract
The rotary engine has a drive shaft with a rotor fixed to it. The rotor carries movable radial blades which are projected outwardly to extend into pressure chambers formed between the periphery of the rotor and the inner surface of a stationary cylinder concentrically surrounding the rotor. The stationary cylinder is provided with pressure and exhaust ports which communicate with each of the pressure chambers. Identical end covers close both faces of the stationary cylinder and connect the pressure and exhaust ports in the cylinder to a pressurised fluid supply and an exhaust outlet. The rotor blades have protrusions projecting outwardly from each side which engage rotatable hump plates mounted in the end covers of the engine. Each of the hump plates has spaced peripheral recesses with a chordal pitch equal to the chordal pitch between blade protrusions on adjacent blades.
