L'oscillateur du type <<à trois portes>>, comportant par exemple un transistor à effet de champ T, est équipé d'un dipôle à réactance variable électroniquement relié à sa source et d'un dipôle analogue ou même identique relié à son électrode de commande, réalisant une réaction entre circuits d'entrée et de sortie du montage. Sous l'action d'une commande unique, agissant par exemple sur un champ magnétique H, les réactances des resonateurs à bille 40 et 50 varient simultanément et l'excursion de fréquence peut dépasser une octave. Application aux oscillateurs en très haute fréquence.
