Abstract

The impact absorbing steering wheel has the plastics moulding prepared in such a way that the plastic fibres run along the lengths of the spokes from a hub(38) to the wheel rim. The link between the spokes and the wheel rim is offset to allow bending movements. The wheel rim is strengthened by tape inserts around the circumference, with the tap ends bonded into the spokes. The whole fitting is lightweight and strong and does not produce any dangerous jagged ends.
