Abstract

A succession of sections of roller conveyors are driven by frictional contact with the upper run of a driven belt which can be declutched by the products being transported. The length of each section corresponds to the length of the product. Each section has a feeler roller (15) near the middle. This stands proud of the other rollers until depressed by a product (1a, 1b, 1c). Depression of roller (15) of section (A1) moves drum (6) of section (A2) releasing tension in the drive belt for section (A2). Similarly drive ceases on succeeding sections until product (1a) is removed whereupon drive to succeeding sections is successively restored.
