Appts. for preventing ignition in quenching baths contg. a flammable liq. comprises a source of fluid under pressure to oppose the combustion of the quenching liquid and means for distributing the fluid to the surface of the liquid. The distribution means are disposed within the mass of quenching liquid so that the fluid under pressure mixing in the liquid before reaching the surface of the liquid. Device is partic. simple and effective in preventing the ignition of oil.
