Abstract
Titanium disulphide particles have hexagonal plates or plate segments intersecting at right angles. They pref. contain 2-6 plates, which are in mutually penetrating form, >=2 being in penetrated form along a common central line and have isotropic aspect. The particles are specified for the prodn. of cathodes. These are used in electrochemical cells, e.g. sec. batteries. They pref. contain less than the stoichiometric amt. of Ti, leaving octahedral lattices spaces, in which an organic material (e.g. pyridine) or esp. alkali metal (Li) ions or other inorganic ions of similar radius, which are known as active anode materials, can be incorporated.
