Abstract
Reburning and quenching of pressed glass articles comprises (1) passing the articles in front of burners arranged on an indexable capstan moving from one work station to the next stepwise, with a stationary period between movements, in front of each burner in turn; and (2) quenching the articles by sudden passage of a refrigerant fluid, blown from cooling jets in the quenching zone work stations. The reburning is concentrated at the edge of each article and carried out inside an enclosure. Each article is rotated continuously on its own axis during the reburning. Suitably, the reburning and quenching of each heated zone is carried out at the same work station and the article is moved on to the next work station to effect reburning and quenching of the adjacent part. Several articles may be reburned and quenched at each work station simultaneously.
