Abstract

Water heater supplied with heat from a solar collector using a phase-change heat transfer medium comprises a condenser situated at a higher level than the collector, so that the collector outlet is below the condenser outlet. In the line connecting the condenser outlet to the collector inlet there is a branch leading to a compensator, esp. a bellows (partic. of neoprene) to allow for vol. changes. pref. the heat transfer medium is Freon 114. Arrangement is self-regulating and provides improved efficiency. It cannot freeze up. It contains no moving parts. Maintenance is easy and the cost is low.
