Abstract
Gelled acid solns. for well treatment (acidising and/or fracturing) comprise (a) water, (b) a water-soluble mineral acid, pref. HCl, and (c) a gelling agent comprising a water-miscible organic solvent and an ethoxylated fatty amine of formula (I): (where R is an opt. unsatd. 8-22C, esp. 16-18C aliphatic gp. or a mixt. of such gps; x and y are 0-10, pref 1). Small amts, (e.g. 0.1-10 wt%) of the gelling agent produce a rapid increase in viscosity with minimal agitation. The gelled solns. have good stability over a wide temp. range, cause little or no damage to the formation, and gradually break to form low-viscosity liqs. with good fines-suspending properties.
