Abstract

An inflatable raft comprises twin tubes of impermeable fabric mounted one on top of the other by fusion-bonded spacers having slightly splayed channel profiles. The floor and roof of the raft etc. also of flexible impermeable fabric secured partly by bonding directly to the main tubes and partly by bonding to ancillary dihedral section profiles also bonded to the main tubes. The design ensures that stresses generated in the joints of the craft during use are predominantly resisted in tension, rather than shear, and hence are less readily destructive. Esp. claimed for raft bodies made of PVC coated nylon or polyester fabric. The spacers may be made of same material as the inflatable tubes or a compatible rigid or semi-rigid material.
