Abstract
The optical element is intended to replace solid glass lenses, prisms etc. The element is gel or liquid filled and overcomes difficulties of weight and manufacture of the solid versions. The element is in the form of a normally two walled (1, 2) transparent cell sealed (3) by e.g. welding along the wall perimeters, the contents (4) being clear or coloured. The device is applicable in solar heating and photovoltaic devices and general lighting purposes. The cell walls may be of glass or a suitable plastics and may have a plugged hole to allow topping up.
