Abstract
The irradiation appliance for the radioactive irradiation of flowable material has a circular-cylindrical radiation chamber (4) with a source support (50) having irradiation sources (55). In the source support (50) there is a stirrer (45), and outside the source support (50) there is a stirrer (38). The stirrer (38) is moved around the source support (50) in the irradiation chamber (4) through the material to be irradiated and at the same time rotates about its longitudinal axis. The material is passed by a screw conveyor (63) into the source support (50) and there is moved upwards along the radiation sources (55) by the stirrer (46). The material leaves the source support (50) through ports (60) in a wall thereof and flows downwards on the outside along the radiation sources (55). The material is discharged from the irradiation chamber (4) by a screw conveyor (65). As the material is conveyed, it is vigorously moved and blended, so that the radiation dose absorbed by the individual grains is uniform. This is not the case in known appliances of this type, in which the material is circulated through the radiation chamber in batches.
