Abstract

A screw jack (1) with a double toggle linkage has a spindle which is machined from a forging integral with the head (9). An eye piece (7), with a hole (8) to receive a handle, is welded to the head (9). The pivot pins of the toggle linkage have transversely tapped holes to receive the spindle. A ball thrust bearing (4) with a housing (5) and two thrust washers (6) is fitted between the spindle head (9) and one of the linkage pivots. This arrangements provides a stronger spindle with reduced operating friction.
