Abstract

The delayed action release is fitted to a vehicle safety belt and operates automatically in the event of a sudden shock, such as in a collision. It comprises a cylindrical body one end being slotted for inserting the safety belt buckle held by a hooked catch. The other end is fixed to the vehicle bodyworka and has a pin holding the piston of a dashpot. Shock breaks the pin, a spring pushing the piston forwards to force oil through an orifice. This moves another piston to release the buckle.
