Abstract

Tubes of PVC and polyethylene as used in plumbing, etc. are chamfered at their ends by means of a neat tool which is easily accommodated in a toolbox, and adjusted to suit a range of pipe sizes. It consists of an angle bracket of metal or plastic with two branches subtending between them at an angle of 90 degrees plus the chamfering angle, which is usually 15 degrees. On one branch two knives are fixed so as to determine the depth of the cut. The other branch has an opening through which a shaft passes. One end of the shaft has a shoulder to retain the guide roller which is changed to suit the bore of the pipe, and the other has a screw thread. A section before the screw thread has raised flats allowing the shaft to slide in the opening in the angle bracket, but not to rotate. A hand wheel screws on to the shaft and locks it to the branch so that the knives are set correctly.
