Abstract

Solar energy collector has a heat transfer medium flowing through it and is protected from overheating. This is achieved by diverting the heat transfer medium to a heat exchanger (e.g. watercooled) in the event of overheating. The diversion is carried out by an automatically operated three way valve. The heat exchanger can be a separate unit or part of the solar collection unit, in which case at least part of it can be cooled. Used in solar energy collection systems, the arrangement prevents damage to the system from overheating in the event of a failure some part of the circulation system.
