Abstract

A composite sheet comprising a textile surface and a thermoplastic surface is prepd. and printed simultaneously on both surfaces by pressing against each other, for a few seconds, on a plate or cylinder heated to 185 (pref. 200) degrees C, and in the indicated order:- (a) a sheet of paper bearing heat-transferable colourants on (b) a textile fabric which will form one of the surfaces of the final prod., (c) a thermoplastic sheet whose m. pt. is less than the temp. of the heated plate or cylinder and (d) a release sheet of Al cellophate or pref. paper which bears the coloured pattern to be transferred onto the thermoplastic sheet, (d) and (a) are then separated from the material produced. The thermoplastic is pref. vinyl chloride (co)polymer. The textile is pref. polyethyleneteraphthalate, polyacrylonitrile, polyamide or cellulose. Previously it has difficult to produce decorated textile fabrics by transfer printing. The process overcomes this and gives a prod. decorated on both surfaces one of which has a textile touch and the other, depending on the thermoplastic, is water- and (opt) air-impermeable. The thermoplastic adheres well to the textile.
