Abstract

The parent patent described a method of treating residues, esp. mattes, from hot dip galvanising processes to recover Zn by anodic dissolution or by setting up a corrosion cell. In the present invention, the resulting soln. is treated magnetically to recover Fe. The appts. consists of a rotating metal (esp. stainless steel) cylinder, contacting a magnetic roller and partially immersed in the soln. A scraper is provided for removing Fe particles retained the cylinder surface. The recovered Fe particles are useful, in acid medium, in the conversion of organic nitro cpds. to nitroso or even amino cpds. The particles show catalytic properties comparable with Raney Ni.
