Abstract

L'invention a trait à la chimie des polymères. Elle concerne un procédé de production de polymères d'halogénures de vinyle de poids moléculaire relativement bas, par polymérisation d'un monomère comprenant un halogénure de vinyle en présence d'un initiateur engendrant des radicaux libres et d'un agent influençant le poids moléculaire, qui est un aldéhyde aliphatique saturé ayant 6 à 18 atomes de carbone, tel que le 2-éthylbutyraldéhyde. Les produits obtenus ont une faible viscosité à l'état fondu et d'excellentes caractéristiques de fusion, ce qui permet de les utiliser avantageusement dans des applications de moulage, d'extrusion et de revêtement.The invention relates to the chemistry of polymers. It relates to a process for producing relatively low molecular weight vinyl halide polymers by polymerizing a monomer comprising a vinyl halide in the presence of a free radical generating initiator and a molecular weight influencing agent, which is a saturated aliphatic aldehyde having 6 to 18 carbon atoms, such as 2-ethylbutyraldehyde. The resulting products have a low melt viscosity and excellent melt characteristics, which allows them to be used advantageously in molding, extrusion and coating applications.
