Abstract
Reinforced hose is made extruding and partially vulcanising a rubber tube, coating the tube with a liquefied polymer such as a PVC plastisol or latex, and overwrapping the coated tube with reinforcing filaments so that the reinforcement is immersed or permeated by the coating before the coating is solidified. Suitable for continuous mfr. of reinforced rubber or plastic hose having an extruded core without involving use of internal (nylon) mandrels and/or contractile sleeves of e.g. lead. The core tube is pref. a non-polar natural or styrene-butadiene rubber having >5, pref. >=15 unsaturated links per 100 backbone C atoms. Alternatively, the core tube may be of polychloroprene. Also suitable for mfr. of cylindrical vessels or conic pump diaphragms. The hose surface may be pretreated by e.g. halogenation or oxidation to enhance adhesion of the coating.
