Abstract

The food heating system employs a microwave oven and a vessel for contg. the food. The vessel is made from a non-conductive material, but has a conductive surface zone with implanted n or p type ions. The latter conductive surface zone is excited by the microwave energy provided by the oven, the frequency of which is within the range which causes electrostatic hysteresis losses within the vessel. Pref. the vessel comprises a glass or ceramic base, the internal surface of which is made conductive by ion implantation. The frequency of the microwave radiation is approximately 2.45 x 109 Hertz.
