Abstract

The sea-powered installation located in coastal marine zones and utilises natural hydraulic energy to provide a continuous electric supply to the national grid. A partic. installation may have barrages separating upsteam and downstream (B) basins, and the barrages may incorporate turbo-alternators. In addn. the barrages may be of a hollow construction and be utilised in storing energy e.g. in the form of compressed fluid. The barrages may vary in design according to site conditions, may include valves and sluice gates etc., and may accommodate slipping lanes. The installation may utilise one basin only after the style of the "Rance" station, but provides a continuous electric supply by virtue of the storage facility.
