A semi-rigid material for covering the ground of sports fields or playgrounds comprises sand or gravel, trash or other fillers bonded together with polyethylene. The fillers are chosen to enhance the resilience and the surface friction of the polyethylene, as indicated by ball rebound heights (increased coeffts. of restitation). The material is used in sheet or tile form, opt. perforated to permit drainage and welded edgewise to form large coherent covered area.
