Abstract
The combined subsoil-drainage and irrigation system is for use on outdoor grassed playing surfaces (7) partic. football pitches. The drainage system is located beneath the topsoil (5), and the irrigation system locates at a higher levelin the roots of the grass. In detail, the system may have a shape subsoil (1) formation with cambered areas falling into trenches arranged in a herringbone pattern. Perforated subsoil-drainage pipes (2) may be located in the trenches with a filter media surround (3), and successive layers of self-draining sand (4) and topsoil (5) may complete the construction. Small bore irrigation pipes (6) may be located in the sand layer (4) and may be laid parallel to one another at relatively close centres.
