Abstract

The machine consists of a frame fittedwith horizontal pivots for a chassis which can be tilted through up to 180 degrees. On the chassis is a fixed plate, along which some of the die segments can slide when actuated by motors, e.g. hydraulic jacks; and a runner block contg. a channel which is permanently connected to the die cavity, is also mounted on the chassis. A motor is pref. employed to tilt the chassis, which is pref. fitted with frames used to support several hydraulic jacks which open and close the die segments and also operate an ejector pushing the casting out of the die. A high rate of mass prodn. can be achieved where the castings have a complex shape, but with complete elimination of internal casting defects such as cavities, and without deformation of the castings.
